- Two of the best-selling sedans
- Both powered by a naturally-aspirated petrol engine
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda Amaze are two of the most sought after sedans in India. Both have been recently updated with a plethora of new features, more modern design, and an interior that looks and feels a cut above sub Rs. 10 lakh hatchbacks. We have driven and tested the automatic versions of the Dzire and the Amaze for their real-world efficiency. All said and done, there is a bigger difference in mileage than you might anticipate here.
The Amaze and the Dzire are powered by 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engines, but their similarities end there. What’s entirely different is the engine configuration and the kind of automatic gearbox that Honda and Maruti Suzuki are offering. For instance, the Amaze gets a four-cylinder engine that is paired with a CVT gearbox, and the entire setup makes 89bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. The Dzire on the other hand gets a three-cylinder engine, which sends power to the road through a five-speed AMT gearbox. It makes 80bhp and 112Nm torque.
The Amaze undoubtedly has the more modern drivetrain here, and it reflects in the real world. It delivers power in a more linear manner, and the gearbox is highly refined. The Dzire uses a rudimentary AMT gearbox, which helps it deliver superior real-world mileage. In our mileage tests, the Amaze CVT delivered 10.7kmpl in the city and 15.6kmpl on the highway. Meanwhile, the Dzire delivered 14.1kmpl in the city and 19.42kmpl on the highway.
